Pop Music
Pop music is a genre of popular music distinguished from classical or art music and from folk music . The term indicates specific stylistic traits, but the genre also includes artists working in many styles such as rock, hip hop, rhythm and blues (R&B), and country, making it a flexible category. The expression "pop music" may also be used to refer to particular subgenres (within the pop music genre) that are in some cases referred to as soft rock and pop/rock.
Characteristics as a subgenre
Pop "is designed to appeal to everyone" and "doesn't come from any particular place or mark off any particular taste." In musical terms, it is essentially "conservative" in that it attempts to resonate with a large segment of its target demographic rather than pushing artistic boundaries. It is "provided from on high (by record companies, radio programmers and concert promoters) rather than being made from below..." (Frith 2001, p.95-96). But over time, pop has gone from "popular in general" to "a genre" described as sounding musically similar to rap, but with singing. This is due to radio stations labeling themselves as "pop stations" taking heavy preference over certain sounds, tossing other popular bands who don't fit into the sound or other categories like rock into the "alternative" label.
Often used to describe the current popular genres of music of any given time, the term "pop" cannot be used describe any one particular style.

Styles influencing the later development of pop include the Blues (Chicago), and Country (Tennessee)
1950s
Early Pop music artists include Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Bobby Darin, and Peggy Lee, but other artists like Bill Haley and his Comets, Fats Domino and Elvis Presley become popular with the younger generation.
1960s
The decade starts out with such Teen Idols such as, Johnny Tillotson, Bobby Vee, Brian Hyland, Tommy Roe, Gene Pitney, and Frankie Avalon. It explodes midway with Carole King, Neil Diamond, Burt Bacharach, Aretha Franklin, Isley Brothers, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, The Supremes, Marvin Gaye, Bob Dylan, and Simon and Garfunkel. It can be said that The Beatles led the British Invasion in this decade.
1970s
A proliferation of new sounds from the disco of the BeeGees, the piano sounds of Billy Joel and Elton John, the country of the Eagles, the rock-influenced pop of artists like Rod Stewart, Steely Dan, and Fleetwood Mac. ABBA was a swedish band who grew to fame after winning Eurovision Song Contest and starting a whole new revolution of pop music.
1980s
Notable highlights for pop music in the 1980s are Michael Jackson's second Epic label release, Thriller, which went on to become the best-selling album of all time, and Madonna albums "Like a Virgin", "True Blue", "Like a Prayer" . Michael Jackson was sometimes referred to as "The King of Pop" and Madonna was named "The Queen of Pop". Other artists included Michael Bolton, Prince, Janet Jackson, Duran Duran, The Police, ABBA, Cyndi Lauper, Whitney Houston, Phil Collins, Kylie Minogue and Culture Club.
1990s and 21st century
The 1990s and 21st century were marked by a resurgence of boy band and girl group trends. From the UK came the likes of Take That, Blue, the Spice Girls, a highly successful formula. Irish boy bands of the time include Boyzone and Westlife. The US had New Edition, New Kids On The Block followed by the Backstreet Boys, Hanson, girl trio Destiny's Child and then 'N Sync and Pop Princesses Willa Ford, Mandy Moore, Britney Spears, Gwen Stefani and Christina Aguilera. Canadian Avril Lavigne became popular with her album Let Go. Australia had Boys from Oz. 1999 saw the rise of the Latin explosion with Ricky Martin at the forefront with his worldwide smash hit "Livin' La Vida Loca". In 2002, Justin Timberlake had critical and commercial acclaim with his "Justified" album, emerging as the new "Prince of Pop", Jesse McCartney has emerged from Dream Street as a high-rating singer with songs like She's No You, Lindsay Lohan and Hilary Duff has become popular in the 2000s. Artists like Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Kylie Minogue, Celine Dion, Garth Brooks, Shania Twain and Madonna have also been highly successful. Reality television shows, such as American Idol, begin producing multi-platinum artists like Kelly Clarkson and Clay Aiken. British pop rock groups such as McFly emerge.
Sound and themes
Pop music, in whatever musical influence form it derives from, may be produced by a more basic songwriting approach and arrangement. The emphasis is often on a simpler melody, which makes the songs more memorable, and may use stripped-down rhythms. The combination of the melody and the rhythm allows for harmony to be a driving force of the song. Themes range from personal songs to vivacious party jams. However, the most common theme deals with the wide range of emotions which stem from physical or emotional love.
Music videos and live performances are often used for exposure in the media, and artists may have extravagant stage shows and use choreographed dancing. Many pop tunes are used in both Dance clubs and Sport clubs.

There are many ways to learn the guitar. Some prefer a one on one instructor, some like the online methods and others will prefer self teaching. So with all these possibilities, what actually is the best way to learn guitar? Let's look at them and see what we find.
Personal instruction
This method is where you will find a teacher and sit with them, usually twice a week. The instructor will assess your ability and move you along as he/she sees fit. This tends to be a little costly and is the biggest deterrent for people to take up the instrument. The cost is in the area of $20 per hour; this can be one 60 minute session or two 30 minute sessions each week.
Each week, you will learn the curriculum that the teacher uses. As you progress, the lessons get harder, obviously. So what happens if you don't have that technique or lesson perfected by the next week? You guessed it; you go over it again and PAY for it again. Plus you will probably be embarrassed at your stumbling at the beginning. This is the drawback to a personal instructor and is not viewed as the best way to learn guitar by some folks.
Self teaching
With this type of guitar lesson, you would go to the music store and buy a lesson book or song book. Take it home and try to make sense out of it. Problem is that you may get some of the material, but it is inevitable that something isn't going to make sense to you. This is a major stumbling block with self teaching.
Trying to learn from a book or DVD just is not the best way to learn guitar, plainly put. You will need some sort of guidance along the line somewhere. You simply will not get that as a self taught guitarist. Oh, you may learn songs from tab, but will you be able to play by ear or keep up with a band?
Online learning
In my humble opinion, this is absolutely the best way to learn guitar and here's why. First, you are shown the material in print and given the instruction on how it is done. Then you can listen to an audio of the material to actually HEAR how SHOULD sound when played properly. On top of that, you also get a video portion that SHOWS how it is played by an experienced player.
This multimedia approach is extremely effective and worthwhile. Not quite a personal instructor; not quite self taught, either. Actually is a nice combo that has all the benefits of both with added effectiveness.
If you have trouble with a particular lesson, you can watch and listen to it over and over again until you have it right before moving on. The most important part is you don't have he embarrassment of stumbling in front of someone else or paying for the same lesson repeatedly. You pay one price, one time and the rest is in your hands.

How to Make Hip Hop Beats - 10 Easy Steps
When you're just starting out how to make beats it can be fun and frustrating at the same time. Trust me I was there. But it really is easier then you think. If you're making a beat here are 10 tips that will get yo stated.
1. Pick a style- Know the style of beat you want to make before you start making it. Like rnb,rap,pop, etc. There have been plenty of beats that I made and could not figure out what style it was.
2. Pick A Major Artist- Think of a known artist that you would want to make the beat for. Like if you chose a style a rap, think now what rap artist do you want to make the beat for. Try to imagine that artist on your beat. This will make your hip hop beat-making experience a whole lot easier.
3. Listen To Their Song- Take a listen to the rap artist you are making the beat for songs. See the style. Get a feel for the kind of hip hop beats the artist raps over.
4. Formatting The Song- Very important. formatting is, the intro, verse, chorus, verse, bridge, etc. That's all it is but basically you just change the order around however you feel like it. Turn on the radio and see how your favorite artist formats there song. When instruments come in, when they drop out. The most basic form to start with is, 2 or 4 bar intro, 16 bar verse, 8 bar chorus, 16 bar verse, 8bar chorus, 16 bar verse, 8 bars chorus. This is the most basic beat-making song format. Then layer that with maybe some toms, cow-bell, symbols, etc. Whatever you want to use. THE DRUMS ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT IN MAKING HIP HOP BEATS! Your drums must hit and hit HARD. The best way to get your drums hitting hard is by not using "pitty pat" free kits you downloaded from the internet for free. If your drums are weak, then your beat is going to be weak.
6. Laying Down A Melody- This is where most hip hop beat-makers have the most trouble. Because most eat makers can't play the keys. For starters, you might want to learn basic keyboard skills. The major thing you need to learn are, major and minor scales. After you learn that, try and do different combinations and patterns with the drum beat you have made. Use an instrument like, a lead guitar, horns, clav, something that will stand out. Your melody can be however you want it, but for starters, you could do a 4 bar melody, or an 8 bar melody.
7. Layering The Beat- What is done a lot in beat making is layering. If you have your whole beat finished. You can go and make it sound bigger by layering. All you do is fill in some gaps, do the same pattern you did with one instrument with another instrument. Do this throughout your beat. This will make you beat sound a lot fatter.
8. Pan- Panning is basically having an instrument all the way to the right, all the way to the left, and anywhere in between. You pan for all kinds of different reasons. It gives each track its own little space in the stereo field. There are no rules for panning, put you have to do it. So just try it out and see what you like best.
9. The Mixdown- Very important! Very Important! Very Important! If you have a poor mix on your beat, then you have pretty much wasted your time. When mixing a beat, start with each track individually. Solo each track and make sure it sounds good by itself. EQ it if you have to, but if each track sounds good by itself, the whole beat will sound that much better. DO NOT DISTORT! If your master levels are in the red before you bounce to disc or .mp3, your distorting. Don't worry about if its not loud enough. You never ever ever want to distort. If you are distorting, check any instrument that has boom or low end, Like a kick, bass, sub, etc. these tend to distort more often.
10. The Bounce- Now that you made you're beat, Its the hottest hip hop beat ever, you want to put it on cd or upload it to the internet. When you're exporting a beat for cd, Use .wav file. 44.1 16bit. If you want to upload to the internet use, 320kbps (the highest .mp3 quality) or 128kbps. Most websites wont accept 320kbps because the file size is too big. So go with 128kbps.

How to Download Music to PSP
Have you been pulling your hair out trying to download music to your Sony PSP?
I am going to give you my quick and easy recipe for putting your favorite music on your PSP. There are only a few steps and it is a cinch on you know how.
1. First off you need to get what they call a cd ripper and while you are at it I would definitely grab a psp video converter. A cd ripper lets you pull music (rip) of your cd's
that you have now. The psp video converter will let you rip and convert video files to watch on your PSP...so you can watch and listen to music videos and music, cool heh!
2. Load your cd and fire up your cd ripper select the song or songs you want to put on your PSP and hit the "extract and encode" to PSP.
3. If you already have music files on your pc then all you need to do is hit "add" from your cd ripper or psp video converter.
4. Make sure on all of the above you select the "PSP" format.
5. How to download or transfer your music to PSP? Just connect your PSP with your PC with the USB cable, and copy your mp3 file(s) into "H:PSPMUSIC" where H: would equal the drive of your PSP.

Credited to Felipe de Leon, "Magtanim Ay 'Di Biro" ("Planting Rice is Never Fun") describes the tedious chore of planting rice. It has been covered by Filipino rock band The Dawn, and former president Joseph "Erap" Estrada even rewrote it into a much more "inspirational" version entitled "Kung Tayo'y Magtatanim" ("If We All Plant Rice").

My Top 2012 Wedding Song Predictions
How many of you are fed-up with watching First Dance Wedding Videos? *my hand in the air waving madly*. Well me too! Watching a bride and groom fumble around dance moves that they are not capable of to a song that just isn't romantic is hopefully going to be so 2011! Let's bring back the romance, the song and the slow dance.
Vintage themed weddings continue to be very popular for 2012, aimed at the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s - probably the best eras for romance in music. Louis Armstrong, Nat King Cole, Etta James, Dusty Springfield, Elvis Presley to name but a few all perfect First Dance songs.
Bang up to date for 2012 First Dance songs are numbers from Adele, Michael Buble, James Morrison and James Blunt.
In the past the first dance was traditionally a waltz, although ballroom dancing has made a big comeback, it is a skill that most people no longer have. If you do want to perform a "Strictly" style ballroom dance there are plenty of dance schools that specialise in First Dance routines.
When choosing the song and dance style, think about the style of your wedding dress. A tight fishtail little number doesn't let you take big strides and a long train can get in the way of a dance that involves turns. A tight strapless dress, perhaps shouldn't see you performing any back or forward bends unless you want the guests to see something that you would have preferred to save for your husband later!

The first dance is traditionally done after the wedding breakfast and directly after cutting the cake. If you are having evening guests it is good to wait until they have arrived. The DJ or MC will announce the couple and clear the dance floor. Remind guests to have their cameras at the ready.

Best Recording Software and Equipment For Your Beginner Home Recording Studio
You can copy me and take away all the guesswork. If there's one thing I know how to do, it's build a beginner home recording studio from scratch for very little money.
It's hard when you're first starting out, I know. You're confused about what to buy, what you can get for free, if the components are compatible with each other, if you're going to have to buy something else to get this or that gadget to work properly.
It can be very frustrating. Let me tell you a short story about an experience I had when starting out, and you see if it sounds familiar.
I did some research on the internet and decided I needed a new MIDI device, or a MIDI cable to hook up my existing keyboard. I wasn't sure which. So I went to a "reputable" music store. I asked the two salespeople what I needed, and do you know what I found? They knew even less than I did! I was throwing out terms that they had never heard of. I was shocked and dismayed.
Then I went to another, even more reputable, music store and asked about the MIDI device I had pretty much decided to purchase. But I had one question...whether or not I needed a new sound card. This salesman acted like he knew exactly what he was talking about when he told me, "The sound card has nothing to do with it."
Even I knew that wasn't right. So I decided I would have to go it alone.
Through trial and error, (and NO help from anyone at any music stores!) I finally built a really cheap and top-functioning beginner home recording studio on your computer.
Here's what I use and recommend to all beginners looking to get started:
The software, which is the foundation of your studio, is very important. Get the wrong one, and you will be either stuck not being able to do much with it (the free stuff), or not being able to understand it and use it easily (the expensive stuff). The one I use is EASY, CHEAP, and FEATURE-RICH. That's the winning combo, folks, and I've only come across it once in my search.
The microphone is the next most important factor. Most of them require extra equipment just to be able to use it with your computer. I know a great one that is a USB plug and play model (unusual), very high quality, and also doubles as an audio interface for your guitar or other instruments.
Finally, the MIDI device. This is not required if you just want to play guitar and sing, like unplugged recordings or something. But if you want to add virtual instruments to your mix, and control all the parts easily via a keyboard, then you need one of these. And I will personally confess that this is the coolest piece of equipment you can get for your studio. Highly addictive and fun to play with. If you don't think you need it now, you will wonder what you ever did without it after you've used it for a couple of weeks!

Top 20 Neil Diamond Hits
Brooklyn born Neil Leslie Diamond began his singing career with the folk group, The Roadrunners, between 1954 and 1956. While a senior at NYU, studying medicine, Diamond was offered a songwriting position, by a publishing company, for fifty dollars a week.
In 1962, Neil Diamond signed a recording contract with Columbia Records, but failed to produce any hits. So, it was back to songwriting for Diamond, whose first success came when Jay and the Americans recorded his song "Sunday And Me." They went Top 20 on the Billboard charts with it.
Other artists who recorded Neil Diamond compositions include: Elvis Presley, Mark Lindsay (of Paul Revere and the Raiders fame), Lulu, and Deep Purple. He also wrote for The Monkees TV show. Even though "I'm A Believer" and "A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You" were recorded by The Monkees, these songs were written by Diamond to record himself.
Diamond signed with Bang Records in 1966 and his first single, "Solitary Man" didn't break into the Top 40. However, it was released again in 1970 and went to #21 on the weekly charts. Spanish Guitar Songs, Chords and Scales
When you take up the acoustic guitar you want to play songs, right? Maybe to sing some songs around the campfire. Lots of pop songs and folk songs sound good accompanied by the acoustic guitar but a sudden wish to play Spanish guitar songs often takes hold of you. If you can play Spanish guitar songs or Spanish sounding instrumentals it is a mark of your progress as a guitar player. This is a wish that many guitarists have but not too many know how to go about finding suitable Spanish flavored music to play.
In order to be some help to these guitarists who wish to have a serious guitar piece to play, I will throw in some suggestions. I know that many of the songs we identify as Spanish guitar pieces are fairly advanced technically but I am not going to leave any out of my list on the basis of technical difficulty. Any guitar piece you hear is probably available on tab and it is up to you to decide once you attempt to play the tab whether you are trying to play something that is too hard for you.
So when we think Spanish music what artists do we think of? There is The Gypsy Kings, Rodrigo Y Gabriela, Paco De Lucia. How about Jose Feliciano. He played Spanish guitar style arrangements of a couple of Beatles songs.
Or there is Spanish Caravan by The Doors. This was actually a mixture of a Flamenco guitar style called Granadinas and a classical guitar piece called Asturias by Isaac Albeniz. The guitar playing sounded impressive on the record but it is not a great technical challenge. You can get the general flavor of the intro to Spanish Caravan by playing the B, C and D bar chords at the second, third and fifth frets. They are all the same chord shape which is based on the A major chord shape in the first position. Here is the B bar chord in tab:

Now to get the Flamenco flavor into these chords, take the bar off and put your first finger back on the fifth string and let the first string ring open in all three positions.
