Spanish Guitar Songs, Chords and Scales

When you take up the acoustic guitar you want to play songs, right? Maybe to sing some songs around the campfire. Lots of pop songs and folk songs sound good accompanied by the acoustic guitar but a sudden wish to play Spanish guitar songs often takes hold of you. If you can play Spanish guitar songs or Spanish sounding instrumentals it is a mark of your progress as a guitar player. This is a wish that many guitarists have but not too many know how to go about finding suitable Spanish flavored music to play.

In order to be some help to these guitarists who wish to have a serious guitar piece to play, I will throw in some suggestions. I know that many of the songs we identify as Spanish guitar pieces are fairly advanced technically but I am not going to leave any out of my list on the basis of technical difficulty. Any guitar piece you hear is probably available on tab and it is up to you to decide once you attempt to play the tab whether you are trying to play something that is too hard for you.

So when we think Spanish music what artists do we think of? There is The Gypsy Kings, Rodrigo Y Gabriela, Paco De Lucia. How about Jose Feliciano. He played Spanish guitar style arrangements of a couple of Beatles songs.

Or there is Spanish Caravan by The Doors. This was actually a mixture of a Flamenco guitar style called Granadinas and a classical guitar piece called Asturias by Isaac Albeniz. The guitar playing sounded impressive on the record but it is not a great technical challenge. You can get the general flavor of the intro to Spanish Caravan by playing the B, C and D bar chords at the second, third and fifth frets. They are all the same chord shape which is based on the A major chord shape in the first position. Here is the B bar chord in tab:

Now to get the Flamenco flavor into these chords, take the bar off and put your first finger back on the fifth string and let the first string ring open in all three positions.

You can also try the same technique by removing the bar from the F major shape, and moving it up the fretboard to see how it sounds.

Some popular Spanish songs you could Google are: Compostelana, La Tarara, Volver, Bomboleiro, Bomoleira, Adelita and La Morena de mi Copla. These are all well-known songs that chords, lyrics and tabs should not be too hard to find on the web.

Assisted in both verbal and non-verbal communication - When music therapy is used to aid in communication, its goal is to improve the production of vocalization and speech, as well as stimulate the mental process of comprehending, conceptualizing and symbolizing. A music therapist will attempt to establish a communicative relationship between the behavior of a child with autism and a specific sound. An autistic person may have an easier time recognizing or being more open to these sounds than they would to a verbal approach. This musical awareness, and the relationship between the autistics' actions and the music, has potential to encourage communication.

Another form of music therapy that may help with communication is to play a wind instrument (IE flute). It is thought that by playing such an instrument, you become aware of the functioning of your teeth, jaws, lips and tongue. Thus, playing a wind instrument almost mirrors the functioning required in order to produce speech vocalizations.

Encouraged emotional fulfillment - Most autistics lack the ability to affectively respond to stimuli that would otherwise allow them to enjoy an appropriate emotional charge. Thus, since most autistics respond well to music stimuli, music therapy has been able to provide autistics with an environment that is free of fear, stimuli considered threatening, etc.

During a music therapy session, an autistic individual has the freedom to behave in specific ways that allow them to discover and express themselves when they want and choose. They can make noise, bang instruments, shout and express and experience the pleasure of emotional satisfaction.

Musical therapy has also helped autistic individuals by:

o Teaching social skills

o Improving language comprehension

o Encouraging the desire to communicate

o Making creative-self expression possible

o Reducing non-communicative speech

o Decreasing echolalia (uncontrolled and instant repetition of the words spoken by another)

Keep in mind that although music therapy can have positive effects on autistic individuals, it is vital that an autistic receives such treatment from a trained and experienced musical therapist.

Have you ever heard a song on the radio, on TV, or on a movie and can't get it out of your head? All you know is, "the words go something like this...." If you have the lyrics stuck in your head but have no idea who the band is or what the song title is, there are some great lyric search engines on the Internet that can help you.

While there are a lot of search engines to choose from, only a few have large databases. I put a few search sites to the test, and here is what I found. The following search engines found my test subject, which is a popular, fairly new song by Coldplay.

1. Endless Lyrics. This free Web site allows you to find songs using their free lyric search. You can search for thousands of songs by artist, song title, or song lyrics. Find all genres of music, from thousands of artists and albums.

2. Who Ditty. Here you can search for a tune by lyrics, tags, artist, or even where you heard it. This site is a fabulous choice if you need to find a tune you heard somewhere specific, such as a television commercial or show, a movie, and so on. Once you find the song, you can also download it from the site.

3. Get Lyrical. This site has a large database and lets you search by lyrics, artist, song, or album. Note: Get Lyrical finds an exact match for your lyrics whereas Search Lyrics searches for those words anywhere in a particular song and will return a result even if the words are all not together.

4. Search Lyrics. One of the benefits of this site is that it also has some non-English lyrics. You can translate any of the English lyrics to another language on the lyric pages. Also keep in mind the note from site number three above.

5. LyricsFly. This site also found my test song, but you have to be sure to click on "lyrics" first and then perform a search to get the best results.

There are many ways to write good lyrics to a song (or a poem). This article will present some different ideas, hopefully to help you consider some new avenues for your songwriting that you may not have thought of before.

When you look at successful song lyrics, in order to sound original, they tend to avoid trite phrases and often embrace tension, dissonance, or unexpected directions. The following are some strategies to consider for writing your own song lyrics:

Wordplay.
Some songs are distinct because they contain plays on words. For example:

"You are my greatest mistake." (Sheryl Crow)
"The only thing that looks good on me is you." (Bryan Adams)

Mysterious.
Some songs seem compelling because of ambiguity (what does the singer actually mean?) or what the songs leave out. It leaves a person guessing. For example:

"I would do anything for love, but I won't do that..." (Meatloaf)
"Because the night"
"Don't call me daughter, not fair to me." (Pearl Jam)

Unexpected phrasing.
Surprising people with a phrase that is totally unexpected can deliver a big effect. For example:

There are endless other ways to write a good song lyric. Some approaches that have worked for others:

Geography (e.g. songs like California Dreamin, Kansas City, Living in America, Carolina on my Mind)
Names (e.g. "Amanda", "Eileen", "Mandy", "Virginia", and countless others)

Telephone numbers and letters (e.g. songs like "Jenny", "I Just Called to Say I Love You")
Memories and time (songs centered around past, present, or future, e.g. "In my Life", "Summer Holiday", "Rock Around the Clock", "Monday Monday", etc.)

The Drifters: The Best "White Christmas"

When composer Irving Berlin wrote "White Christmas" in 1941, he insisted that the superstar of the day, crooner Bing Crosby, be the first to record it. Crosby's version, recorded for Decca on May 29, 1942, became the best-selling record of all time. But is it the best version of the song of wishing to be home for the holidays?

Facts of how and where Berlin wrote the song are murky, with accounts that he may have written it at one of his homes in New York or Beverly Hills; one account has the song composed poolside at the Biltmore Hotel in Phoenix, Arizona.

Though written in 1940, the song made its first appearance in the 1942 movie Holiday Inn. As troops left home in the shadow of World War II, the song's tale of longing to be home for Christmas became more poignant... and ensured its success.

More than a hundred cover versions of "White Christmas" have been recorded, from country (Chet Atkins) to gospel (Mahalia Jackson) to rock (Elvis Presley) to modern R&B (Babyface). Even Twisted Sister recorded the song. But for many, the Drifters' 1954 version remains the gold standard.

The Drifters of the early 1950s was a group that had scored hits on the rhythm & blues charts like "Money Honey" and "Honey Love." Built around high tenor Clyde McPhatter, who had just left Billy Ward and the Dominoes, the group included Bill Pinkney, brothers Andrew and Gerhart Thrasher and Willie Ferbie.

McPhatter was a revolutionary figure, fusing his gospel style with the R&B of the era to create the template for soul music. But McPhatter, singing falsetto, shared lead vocal duties on "White Christmas" with bass man Bill Pinkney, resulting in a unique and memorable sound. But it would be years before the song would even be heard by most of America... white America.

In the early 1950s, racism prevented black groups like the Drifters from getting airplay on radio stations with white audiences. When "White Christmas" was released, it reached number 2 on Billboard's R&B chart, but only made number 80 on the pop charts. The song was rarely heard until used in the 1990 film Home Alone, lip-synched by a young Macauley Culkin, who sings into a comb as he applies his father's after shave.

The song's appearance in that hit movie (and subsequently in The Santa Clause) made the Drifters' version a staple on rock, pop and country stations every Christmas season. It even became a popular Internet cartoon by animator Joshua Held. Ironically, the song's release signaled the end to the first chapter of the Drifters' story.

Clyde McPhatter was drafted into the Army soon after the song's release and thanks to its success, Atlantic Records decided to make McPhatter a solo act. McPhatter followed with two big hits, "A Lover's Question" and "Lover Please," but his success was soon eclipsed by the soul singers he had inspired. McPhatter died in 1972.

What happened to Bill Pinkney and the other Drifters is part of rock history. In 1958, Drifters' manager George Treadwell fired the entire group at the Apollo theater, replacing them overnight with the members of the Crowns. These "new" Drifters - Ben E. King, Charlie Thomas, Doc Green and Elsbeary Hobbs - and their successors went on to become one of the most popular singing groups in history, recording iconic hits like "There Goes my Baby," "Save the Last Dance for Me," "Under the Boardwalk," and "Up on the Roof."

The last of the original Drifters, Bill Pinkney, continued to record and perform with his group until his death in 2007.

I wanted to take the time to discuss a little with you about ballet training. Many people out there don't really understand what it takes to be great at this. A lot of parents see their daughters (or sons) and think they'll be marvelous, but in reality it takes a lot of work and a lot of dedication. Very few people will actually become extremely good at this and I think that shows you have to have a work ethic that beats out most other things. I like to think of ballet like an art. Something that takes skill, but your own personal touch. I'm going to show you the proper rules of ballet training, so you know how to do things correctly.

You have to be a physical specimen to be in ballet. You have to be strong and powerful, yet flexible and graceful. It's hard to get these two things in balance because they're so contrary. I think it is essential to have balance with all your training. You're going to have to spend time working on ballet, but the rest of your time working on becoming more flexible and working with weights to get much more strong.

As for ballet training, you can't just stop with your teacher. You don't go to the studio and work for an hour, go home and that's it. You have to go home and put some more hours of work into learning everything. Get the mirror out and practice in front of it. Watch yourself and make sure you're making the right steps and moves.

Track Notes from Neil Diamond: 1. Forever In Blue Jeans — “Forever in Blue Jeans” was inspired by guitarist Richard Bennett’s wonderful opening guitar lick which he first played for me while we were out on the road. That guitar lick was so seductive that the melody I started singing over his guitar practically wrote itself. When we returned to L.A. we were anxious to get into the studio and put the finished (we thought) song on tape. After running through it with my band a few times, we all realized that we needed to add another musical section to make the record really work. We called a 15 minute break, right in the middle of the recording session, while Richard and I sat down at the piano and hashed out a brand new section with a lyric of its own (“Maybe tonight...” ). This new, unplanned section (instantly orchestrated by arranger Tom Hensley) would become one of my favorite parts of the record. Necessity really did prove to be the mother of invention on this wonderful Bob Gaudio production. 2. Beautiful Noise — I remember Garth Hudson of The Band sitting at his huge self built pipe organ and playing the solo of this record at the Beautiful Noise session. What he played completely floored us as he filled the musical track with an amazing sound that helped keep the record alive and interesting. Thank you Garth. 3. Love On The Rocks — “Love on the Rocks” was performed live for the cameras on the set of The Jazz Singer movie. This is something that’s hardly ever done in movies as they prefer to have the singer lip-sync the vocals of a pre-recorded track. All the songs in The Jazz Singer were done live because I’m terrible at lip-syncing. 4. Cherry, Cherry — Ellie Greenwich, Jeff Barry, Artie Butler and I made a fun little demo of “Cherry, Cherry” to use as a guide for an upcoming recording session of the song. We never could top that unpretentious, good feeling demo at the full session, so they ended up releasing the demo. It went top five in America and marked the true beginning of my career in music. 5. I Am…I Said — “I Am...I Said” took four months of writing day and night to complete. When the song was finally finished, a great Lee Holdridge string and horn chart was written and recorded. An immaculate Tom Catalano production completed this musical journey. It was nominated for a Grammy and still gives me chills when I perform it. 6. Sweet Caroline — “Sweet Caroline” was written in a Memphis hotel room the night before it was recorded. The next day I walked the song over to American Sound Studio and played it through for producer Tommy Cogbill and the studio house band (Reggie Young on guitar, Mike Leech on bass, Bobby Emmons on the Hammond B-3 organ, Bobby Woods on acoustic piano and Gene Chrisman on drums). This little group created the basic track of one of my biggest and most durable hits ever. Co-producer Tom Catalano then brought in arranger Charlie Calello who wrote the unforgettable string and horn charts (bah-bah-bah) which were recorded later in New York City. This record was an unexpected gift from the Gods of music. One that made us all look so good, so good, so good! 7. Cracklin’ Rosie — While chatting with a Canadian fan one day I was told the story of an Indian tribe on a reservation in Canada which had a deficit in the number of women. This meant that those unfortunate single men would buy an inexpensive bottle of wine called Crackling Rosé to keep them company on Saturday nights. This wine would become their date for the evening and they called her Cracklin’ Rosie. That was all the story I needed to hear to write this song. It ended up being my first #1 record as an artist. For a recording artist there is no bigger thrill. 8. Play Me — We discovered during its recording session that “Play Me” didn’t feel quite right in the 4⁄4 time signature that I had written it in. Guitarist Richard Bennett came up with the solution by playing his guitar picking lick in 3⁄4 time. This new time signature made all the difference in the world as the song settled into its own natural feel. I thanked Richard for pointing me in the right direction by giving him my beloved Everly Brothers acoustic guitar on the spot. He returned it to me years later knowing how much I missed it. That guitar now resides at the Grammy museum in Los Angeles. 9. I’m A Believer — I don’t remember too much about writing or recording “I’m a Believer.” At the time it was just another one of the songs I had written for my second album on Bang Records. I do remember though, the Monkees recording it and taking it to #1 on the charts and it becoming the biggest selling single of the year. It’s hard to forget stuff like that. 10. Girl, You’ll Be A Woman Soon — This was my love song to all the screaming teeny-boppers at my early shows. 11. Holly Holy — Tommy Cogbill produced the basic tracks of “Holly Holy” in Memphis with the super-hot American Sound Studio house band. When co-producer Tom Catalano and I hand carried the boxes of recording tape through the Memphis airport to L.A. the next day, we held them like they were newborn babies because we both felt there was a miracle on those tracks. When we got back to L.A., Tom brought in arranger Lee Holdridge who was inspired enough by the tracks to write the most magnificent string and choral parts. When engineer Armin Steiner played it back all together, we knew we had somehow captured lightning in a bottle. This was a once in a lifetime recording experience for me. 12. Solitary Man — “Solitary Man” was a first for me in many ways. My first chart record as an artist, my first recorded performance with great professional musicians, the very best engineers, and two producers at the top of their game, Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich. These elements together made my first important musical introduction to the public one that I was thrilled to put my name on. 13. Song Sung Blue — I wish I could remember who played that electric piano riff on the opening of this record. I still love it. Also, it was my second #1 record as an artist. 14. You Don’t Bring Me Flowers — This song was written at the request of television producer Norman Lear. He wanted it used as a theme song for a new “male-female role reversal” TV sitcom called All That Glitters (why else would a guy be singing about not getting flowers?). Marilyn and Alan Bergman and I wrote the lyric first and then I went off to set it to music. It didn’t take long, the lyric was written to be sung. The song itself begged to be a duet and eventually my friend Barbra Streisand heard it and agreed. My third #1 single was shared with my favorite girl singer. What fun! 15. Hello Again — Alan Lindgren and I wrote this song at drummer Dennis St. John’s beach pad in a smoky haze of good fellowship. 16. Red, Red Wine — “Red, Red Wine” was recorded for Bang Records in 1967. Soon afterwards, I left the Bang Records label. After I left, the people at Bang began to release everything I had ever recorded while I was with them, whether it was complete or not. They decided to throw in some violins to the very understated track I did for “Red, Red Wine” and then released it. I didn’t like their version very much but I swallowed it and moved on. Years later the group UB40 released the song in a terrific reggae version. The fact that UB40’s record went to #1 on the charts helped soothe my hurt pride. #1 records have a way of making all the hurt go away. 17. If You Know What I Mean — This is one of my favorite songs from the BeautifulNoise album. Robbie Robertson did a masterful job of producing this entire album. 18. Brother Love’s Traveling Salvation Show — This very unique record (produced by Tommy Cogbill and Chips Moman) was another Memphis creation (circa 1969). Bobby Woods on piano and Mike Leech on bass led me and the band to the promised land with this track. “Brother Love” was a very odd single (you couldn’t dance to it because of all the tempo changes) but it caught on nonetheless. Almost immediately, it became one of my favorite songs to perform live and remains my show closer after more than forty years. Now that’s what I call longevity! 19. Pretty Amazing Grace — “Pretty Amazing Grace” is one of the offspring of my two Rick Rubin produced albums, 12 Songs and Home Before Dark. I familiarized the band in the studio with it by having us practice the instrumental guitar section that can be heard about three quarters of the way through. Once we got that part down, the rest of the tune just fell into place. Of course it takes great musicians to make things just “fall into place.” I was lucky to have them and a great producer on those sessions. 20. Kentucky Woman — I wrote “Kentucky Woman” in an old limo that I had just purchased from a funeral home to carry me through a touring version of Dick Clark’s Where the Action Is T.V. show. It was my very first tour and I didn’t know exactly what to expect so I prepared myself to do a lot of writing in transit. My keyboard player Max Sandler drove that ’57 Cadillac limo as I sat in the roomy back seat cradling my guitar and writing songs throughout that entire thirty-two city, twenty-eight day tour. This song was started as we approached our play date in Paducah, Kentucky. 21. Shilo — “Shilo” set a higher lyrical standard for me than anything I had written before on Bang Records because it had a little story to tell. I wanted this record out as a single and Bang Records did not. They offered to release it if I were willing to re-sign with them for another two years. I refused, believing that I had earned the right to choose my own single after all the success we’d had. I finally left Bang and my producers Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich over this song. I don’t regret it and I guess it turned out okay in the end but I’ll always miss the excitement of those Bang Years. 22. America — For me, the song “America” provided the heart and soul of The Jazz Singer film. The satisfaction I felt from popularizing that song made the reviews I got as an actor sting a little less. 23. Hell Yeah — This self-revelation poured out of me as the last of the thirty songs I had written for contention in my 12 Songs album. “Hell Yeah” is an affirmation of a lifetime spent devoted to music and my attempt to find a personally satisfying life for myself beyond the music. I have that life now but it was a much harder job than I thought possible. Still, well worth all the years and all the tears. I wish I could personally thank the hundreds of musicians, arrangers, and engineers who, along with the producers, spent long days and nights in studios around the country to make these recordings vibrate and thrill. As a songwriter I can only humbly bow down and thank them all from the depths of my heart for giving wings to my dreams. —Neil Diamond

Christmas Song - Jingle Bells History and Fun Facts!

'Jingle Bells' is one of the best known Christmas songs in the world yet its history tells us that is not specifically a Christmas song. Known today as a fun and laughter filled Christmas song and it is popular as the subject of parody. James Lord Pierpont originally wrote the song in 1857 and it was copyrighted at the time as 'One Horse Open Sleigh'. The song was reprinted in 1859 with the revised title of 'Jingle Bells'. Pierpont wrote the song for a Thanksgiving program at a church in Savannah, Georgia in the USA where he was the resident organist.

The tune of 'Jingle Bells' has been used in German and French songs to celebrate winter fun. Lyrics are completely unrelated to the ones we all know and love. For example, Francis Blanche wrote the French song 'Vive Le Vent' meaning 'Long Live the Wind' with references to new year's day.
In 1898 'Jingle Bells' was first recorded by the Edison Male Quartette in the USA. It has since been recorded by many great artists including Bing Crosby and The Andrew Sisters. In 2006 when Kimberley Locke sang it, it became a number one hit on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart.

Here is a fun fact. In 1965, December 16th 'Jingle Bells' was the first song broadcast from outer space. Wally Schirra and Tom Stafford, the astronauts aboard Gemini 6 played a prank. They relayed to mission control that they saw a UFO with eight smaller UFO's in front. Their reports followed that the pilot in the larger command module UFO was wearing a red suit. The prank concluded with the astronaut duo playing 'Jingle Bells' on a harmonica accompanied by sleigh bells that they had smuggled on board. Today at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum both instruments are on display. Interestingly, they are considered the first musical instruments to be played in space!

'Jingle Bells' has also been the subject of parody. The best known homage to the original song is 'Jingle Bell Rock' by Bobby Helms. In the 1960's children in the USA commonly sang the verse 'Jingle bells, Santa smells, Easter's on its way. Oh what fun it is to ride in a beat up Chevrolet.' Here is another parody of 'Jingle Bells', a verse which adults and children alike loved and continue to love to sing while enjoying a few laughs along the way 'Dashing through the snow, on a pair of broken skis, crashing into trees, and a piece of moldy cheese Ha Ha Ha, the snow is turning red, I think I'm almost dead, please rush me to the hospital before I lose my head. Ha Ha Ha.'

'Jingle Bells' continues to be a Christmas favorite song whether sung in its original form or whether by parody, it is still popular throughout the world today. A song that brings families and communities together sharing good cheer and holiday fun at Christmas time each year!

The track entitled "Why this Kolaveri Di" is from the movie "Three" or 3 which is posed to be released in 2012. The music video was leaked out just a few days ago and has become a major hit in the internet word. On video sharing sites, number of hits are nearly approaching 2 million which is very large indeed considered that the video is only a few days old. In addition, many on Facebook and other social networking sites are sharing the video. Even the lyrics have become very popular as some are even tweeting and sending SMS messages to their friends taken the music track.

"Why this Kolaveri Di" means, "why this murderous rage, girl", is a song sung by the actor Dhanush who also happens to be the son-in-law of the Tamil legend Rajnikant. eBay Pulse. This is a list of the top 10 most searched for items in each category, and then sub-category. This should be your list of dream items to encounter while shopping. These items are the ones you should buy with little hesitation when seeing.

In fact, it is a good idea to keep a notebook and write these things down to take with you on your product buying adventures. Though, it is a good idea to note the reason most of these things are so sought after is because they are expensive, so it might be hard to find them in your daily searches. But it is possible.

For example, I sell a lot of used clothing on Ebay when I can not find anything else. Clothing is a reliable source of income for me, and something which is fairly easy to fall back on. Now when I look at the current Ebay Pulse list, it shows the top ten items that are selling best on eBay under Clothing, Shoes and Accessories:

Another good idea to find out what brand names are selling well on eBay is to watch TV. For example, there are always Gap and Old Navy commercials on. Every time there is a commercial on TV it is advertising partially for you. Even though Gap and Old Navy are not on the list, they are more common than anything found above, and sell through very well. Sometimes surprisingly well! I am always pleasantly surprised whenever I buy a used pair of Old Navy Jeans and sell them for $10-$20.

Other places to look for popular brands are at some of the trendiest stores. Look to the mall, Macy's, Bloomingdales, Pacsun, Urban Outfitters etc... It is their job to find the best selling brands and stock the store with them. It is a good idea to search through their stores and note the brands which they are selling. And don't feel like you have to go to the mall, check out their websites!

These sorts of strategies should work when looking for any item. Look to eBay Pulse in the category you like to sell in, and also think about what kinds of stores sell similar products you are looking to sell.

It wasn't long ago when Nokia launched its new line-up of phones, the C-Series. Currently being the most dominant cell phone manufacturer, Nokia has already released quite a number of successful phones to this series, and has also just announced its latest addition to it, the C5-03. Now, it must be noted that the Nokia C5-03 is not to be confused with the previously released Nokia C5. In short, the device has quite some neat features which are simple to use but covers all of the essentials for modern-day phones and at the same time comes at an affordable price.

In terms of design, the C5-03 looks very stylish and comes in a number of vibrant & variant colours.

The C5-03 features a neat 3.2 inch TFT resistive touchscreen which features a resolution of 360 x 640 pixels. Although this display can't exactly match up to the ones on the latest smartphones today, but should be sufficient for the average user. There is also a Accelerometer sensor for auto-rotate and Proximity sensor for auto turn-off.

The depressing part though, is that the operating system on the Nokia C5-03 is Symbian ^1 aka S60 5th edition touch edition. Nokia has already pushed some of their other smartphones to Symbian ^3, and is it hence disappointing that they did not do the same with the C5-03. Despite that, there's Nokia Messaging pre-installed, Mail for Exchange support, Ovi Mail, Ovi Store and Ovi Music Integration. The new C5-03 flaunts an impressive 5 Mega Pixel Camera, but it is of fixed focus and there is no flash to accompany it. The Image quality is what we can come to expect from an average 5 Mega Pixel Camera. A very nifty feature that's available though is Geo-tagging. Apart from images, video Recording is supported at an not so impressive resolution of 640x480 at 15 frames per second and save them in H.263 or MPEG-4 formats. Yet again, the lack of flash shows, as the video recording isn't exactly in top notch quality, even for the supported resolution.

Storage wise, the C5-03 is impressive for a phone with mid-range features. There's only 40MB of internal user memory, but there is a Micro SD card slot, hence it makes the memory expandable up to 16 GB with Micro SD Cards.

The Biggest Surprize is with the battery life. Nokia has outdone themselves in this department by offering a 1000 mAh battery to a phone that has controlled and limited battery consumption. The result is an extremely long standby time of up to 24-25 days. And a talk time of 11.5 hours on 2G networks and 5 hours on 3G networks.

Nokia has managed to offer quite some connectivity options on the C5-03 with support for quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE, tri-band 3G with HSDPA (10.2Mbps) and HSUPA (2Mbps), A-GPS and Bluetooth 2.0.

The Funeral of George Best

In death, as in life, George Best was setting records galore at his funeral. On a filthy Belfast day where it rarely stopped raining, hundreds of thousands of people turned out to say one final farewell to their most famous son.

For one day at least this secularly divided society was not green, nor orange, but quite decisively, red, the red of Manchester United Football Club, the club where Mister Best imperiously strode the world's football fields for ten glorious years.

In scenes eerily reminiscent of Princess Diana's funeral, the crowds threw flowers and football scarves on to the hearse, and scarves from dozens of different clubs too, Celtic, Rangers, Liverpool, Everton, Manchester City, some of United's fiercest rivals among them. The driver was frequently forced to stop to clear the windscreen.

And the funeral service that was held in the Stormont government building was the first ever funeral to be held there. Some 32,000 souls were allowed into the grounds, to watch the service on giant screens standing in the rain, and an uncountable number lined the streets outside. The flags on that vast sombre building flew at half-mast, the first time this has ever occurred for a commoner, for this was, in all but name, a State Funeral.

Like everything else during the day, the service was memorable. The songs and hymns were beautifully sung and included the Beatles, "The Long and Winding Road", so appropriate as George was known as the "fifth Beatle", Don MacLean's "Vincent", where the last line was predictably amended to "I could have told you Georgie," the huge Westlife single, the band from the Irish Republic, "You raise me up", and all topped off with the football hymn "Abide with me."

Dennis Law, the Lawman himself, and one of Best's colleagues in the 1968 European Cup winning side, and himself a European footballer of the year, gave one of the readings, and after that the coffin was driven away through the still waiting crowds to a private family burial where all cameras were barred.

And did the Glazer family from Florida, the club's new owners, choose to attend the proceedings? Well of course they did not, for they are not football people, and they would not understand what George Best meant to the supporters, or the people of Northern Ireland, or that George Best was instrumental in raising Manchester United above ordinary football clubs. Their ground is known as the Theatre of Dreams, and George Best is one of the primary reasons for that. Manchester United FC is worth the three quarters of a billion pounds the Glazer family paid for it, because of people like George Best and Dennis Law, and Bobby Charlton, and those kids who died in the 1958 Munich Air Disaster, and the top players who led United to that unforgettable treble in 1999.

The Glazers made a big mistake in not attending the funeral, nor the minute's silence held at the ground against West Bromwich Albion. This was a poor decision, and at best they have been badly advised. The family have signally failed to win the trust and approval of the massive support, and they have a lot of work to do, if they aim to achieve this.

In a land that has witnessed far too many funerals, this was the biggest ceremony ever to be held in the Province, and it will be long remembered by all who saw it. And yet this funeral was quite different. There were no shots fired over the graveside, there was no religious division, because George Best truly represented everyone in Ulster. He was above sectarianism and would have no truck with it. George Best will be remembered for as long as people who follow the game remain alive, and for as long as future generations are able to watch the old grainy pictures. George Best, the greatest footballer Europe has ever produced.

Interested in learning how to read body language? Would you like to be able to tell when people are lying and understand people's intentions? This article will provide you with the top 10 tips for reading body language.

I feel Body Language is the most important language you can learn. It bypasses the verbal communication barriers and gives you an insight into what others might be thinking, or what actions they are likely to take.

Remember that the art of being able to read body language is to be able to look at some one, pick up the signals, and at the same time not let on to that person you are doing this. If you do the person will become uncomfortable.

Tip 1. - Eyes

Dilated pupils - the person is interested in the topic.

People say that the eyes are the windows to the soul. They can tell so much information about the person if you know what you are looking for. As in most situations, the same signal can be interpreted in a different way. It depends entirely on the circumstances at hand. The example above could also mean that the person is on drugs, or it could mean that they are focused.

Tip 2. - Hands

Open palm.- the person is relaxed and comfortable.

The hands have many expressions and are a good place to start when learning how to read body language. Generally when some ones hands are open it means that their defenses are relaxed.

Tip 3 - Mimicking

When you are talking to someone, if they are mimicking your body position and action it means that they are comfortable in the situation and most likely interested by you and what you are saying.

Tip 4 - Eyes

If someone's eyes are gazing to the side it is a trait that they are feeling guilty. Likewise if they are gazing down this express's shame. Remember the eyes have so many meanings and it's easy to make the wrong evaluation. Practice makes perfect.

Tip 5 - Arms

The main two expressions with arms is that they are either closed (folded) or open. When folded the person is possibly angry or disapproving. When their arms are open the person is in an honest position and is accepting of the situation.

Tip 6 - Rubbing of the Chin

If someone is rubbing their chin it generally means that they are thinking.

Tip 7 - Feet

When you are in conversation with someone you can tell if they are comfortable and interested by what you are saying by their feet position. When standing opposite one another the other persons feet are facing in your direction. This means that they are comfortable and their head and eyes will also be focused on you.

When standing opposite someone their feet are pointing away and their head and eyes are not focused on you. They will most likely be nodding and agreeing with a fake smile. This means that the person n question is not interested and might even feel uncomfortable in the situation.

Tip 8 - Legs

When stood up Legs are a good indicator of how confident someone is. If someone is standing with their legs shoulder width apart they are relaxed. If they are standing with a stance wider than that they are a confident and are in a grounded position to show they are in control.

When stood up with legs crossed the person is probably shy.

When sitting down if the legs are crossed it shows the person is in protective mode. This is very much used alongside crossed arm action.

If the legs are open when the person is seated then they are in a relaxed position. The same as when standing.

Tip 9 - Fingers

Fingers can create many gestures and are great for reading body language. A pointing finger can either be someone pointing to a item or place, it can also indicate anger. If someone is curling their fingers tightly they are usually pleading for some thing.

Drumming or tapping with the fingers indicates frustration. The faster the beating, the greater the frustration and tension inside the person.

Tip 10 - Eyebrows

The eyebrows have many uses. Listed below are some examples. When the eye brows are raised, normally the person is shocked or surprised. The greater the surprise the more raised they will be. When someone flicks their eye brow up and down quickly they are greeting someone else or are showing they have acknowledged them.

Although you are not to blame for someone stepping out on a relationship, infidelity is usually a symptom of a deeper problem.

5. You discover e-mail accounts that you didn't know existed. He will refuse to give you access to his email account. He's not stupid! Is he?

6. He doesn't invite you around his friends, company events, and other social activities. Is he cheating at work? It can be worse than a nightclub. There will probably be less of a chance that he is cheating at a night club.

7. Unusual mood swings. These are one of many signs of cheating men that is caused by the internal conflict and struggle that you man is going through during his time of infidelity.

1) Kind of Blue -Miles Davis

Yes this is probably the number one selling jazz album of all time. Some say it IS the best jazz album of all time. Did you know that the musicians didn't even rehearse for the recording session? Miles just showed up to the Blue Note session with some melodies and chords and proceeded to record each song in one take... that's how Miles liked to do it... he wanted everything to be spontaneous. Needless to say, everyone played brilliantly. There was so much talent and feeling that there was just no need for many takes. The songs consist of simple melodies and there is so much space yet also deep emotion. It is a pleasure to listen to and feel this album.

2) A Love Supreme -John Coltrane

This album completely changed the jazz world in 1965 and even today it's effects can be found in many musical styles, not just jazz. Coltrane evolves from the extremely complex and dense harmonic language he had mastered with Miles Davis and Monk and just played with pure, raw passion. The four songs on this album are simultaneously filled emotions of anger, joy, sadness, ecstasy, tragedy and triumph. I know of many different types of artists such as writers or painters who use this album to inspire energy and passion from within themselves for their own personal art. This album also inspired a revolution in Coltrane's playing as he played with this same organic raw intensity for the rest of his life.

3) Time Out -Dave Brubeck

This was the first instrumental jazz album to sell over a 1,000,000 copies. 'Take 5' was even a number one hit on Billboard's charts which is a serious feat for any jazz song (and any song in 5/4!). Brubeck uses rhythmic influences from Eastern Europe to create a very new sound in the jazz style. The complex rhythms he uses sound very natural and are easy to listen to, probably the reason for his success. This one is guaranteed to please and intrigue it's listeners.

4) Ellington at Newport -Duke Ellington

Here's a historic concert that has a wonderful background story... It was 1956 and many big bands were failing because of the rise of bebop and modern small group jazz. So at the 3rd annual Newport Jazz Festival, Ellington tried hard to please the crowd with new suites and new arrangements, but the crowd was very sedated as usual. Then finally on a two section song, Dimuendo and Crescendo in Blue, Duke had the two sections connect with a sax solo by Paul Gonzalves and him told to play the solo as long as wanted to. He usually only took a couple choruses but this time Gonzalves took a 27 chorus solo that eventually had the crowd off it's feet and dancing! This changed the face of jazz solos and as well as gave Duke some new found success. Duke's band continued in this popularity for 18 more years.

5) Jazz at Massey Hall -Charlie Parker

This album often appears reissued under the name "The Greatest Concert Ever". It is an all star lineup of Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Bud Powell, Charles Mingus, and Max Roach. These guys were all involved in the creation of bebop about 15 years before this concert date (1953) and thus were all seasoned veterans by the time of the concert. Also this was the only time these five would record together and everyone plays amazingly. A lot of earlier bebop recordings suffered from sound quality but this one sounds very good for a live concert.

6) Headhunters -Herbie Hancock

When I first heard this album I felt I had finally found that perfect "sound" I had been searching for my whole life. Some critics and pure acoustic jazz-heads say this album is not jazz, but I must disagree. Others do too, this album was so popular that it quickly sold over a million copies after it's release in 1973. It's simple, funky, extremely enjoyable, and AMAZING! Listen to it over and over for maximum satisfaction.

7) Blue Train -John Coltrane

Recorded in 1957, this album was Coltrane's first album as a leader. It's very interesting to hear how Coltrane was playing before he started heading to the freer, passionate playing that he evolved to in the 60's. Did you know that ten years earlier, Coltrane was considered just a mediocre player? He studied with others and performed SO MUCH with Miles. He was known to constantly practice after gigs late into the night to become the player he was on this album... and he continually improved after this recording! I love this album because it has such a solid, classic jazz sound with great musicians and great originals by Coltrane himself.

8) Getz/Gilberto -Stan Getz, Joao Gilberto

So Herbie Hancock won a Grammy for Album of the Year in 2008, the last jazz album to win the award was this one in 1965. It created the Bossa Nova craze in the United States and is one of the best selling jazz records of all time. Stan Getz, Joao and Astrud Gilberto are extremely graceful and intimate as they float along through this wonderful material composed by the famous Antonio Carlos Jobim. I think the best word to describe this album is relaxing.

9) Mingus Ah Um -Charles Mingus

Charles Mingus had a way of making his bands sound lush, original, and of course swing like crazy. This album features many tribute songs to former jazz legends that are guaranteed to get your foot tapping and your fingers snapping! Also there are some amazing ballads filled with highly colorful and emotional horn arrangements. I love to listen to and jam the song Fables of Faubus, a track dedicated to the infamous former governor of Arkansas who took a stand against integration in schools in 1957, the music says it just right.

10) Concert by the Sea -Errol Garner

Errol Garner is a beast. This may be because he can't read a note of written music and therefore must rely on his hearing to guide him to what sounds good. Well he certainly knows what that is because this album is incredibly interesting both harmonically and rhythmically. His left hand swings so hard that it really is on another level of most all pianists. He is technically fluent and plays extremely extravagant arrangements of many well-loved standards like Autumn Leaves and I'll Remember April.

My Favorite Top 10 Comedy Songs

Since music is my background and has been since the age of 9 and that I have been a comedian since 1980, I felt it only fitting that I do a Top 10 list of my favorite comedy songs. There have been so many novelty songs on the charts and in movies over the years and I hope I can remember all the ones that I have enjoyed. I will surely do my best to cover all of them. If I forget any of yours, let me know I and will update my list. I will just go through most of them and then put them in my list. With all that being said, here we go:

Monty Python has provided numerous songs that I have loved over the years; Sit On My Face, Brave Sir Robin, Look On The Bright Side Of Life and of course their infamous The Lumberjack Song. I also loved the theme song from their old television shows, Monty Python's Flying Circus. It was said by George Harrison that he had felt that when the Beatles broke up, Python had taken the baton, so to speak, and continued with the same aura and spirit. I agree totally. Their shows, movies and songs are classics and so was the play Spamalot, which I thought was absolutely hysterical and brilliant.

Mel Brooks has been terrific at supplying us with great comedy songs and theme songs. Blazing Saddles and I'm Tired from the movie Blazing Saddles, High Anxiety from the movie of the same name, Springtime For Hitler and Prisoners In Love from The Producers, and Putting On The Ritz from Young Frankenstein. Mr. Brooks never ceases to amaze me with his talent and sense of humor.

Ray Stevens has written and performed many, many great comedy songs throughout his illustrious career. Please Mr. Custer, The Streak, Ahab The Arab, Harry The Hairy Ape and one of my favorite titles of all time that they actually were able to fit on the label of the old 45's, Jeremiah Peabody's Polyunsaturated, Quick Dissolving, Fast Acting, Pleasant Tasting Green And Purple Pills. I am still amazed at that the record company went for that title and agreed to print it on the cover. That's a lot of extra ink per record.

Allen Sherman, in the 50's & 60's, used to do a lot of parodies of classic songs. His most famous one was Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah. It was about the tribulations of a kid at camp. Very funny and relatable for kids and adults alike.

The Playmates did a great comedy song in the 50's that got faster and faster as the tune went along called Beep Beep (Little Nash Rambler). I loved that song as a kid. It was very unique and was in the rotation on radio stations for many weeks.

Sheb Wooley had a great song in the 50's called Flying Purple People Eater. I rememebr all of the visuals that song conjured up as a young boy. I mean, how could you possibly escape from a Purple People Eater that could fly too?

Dave Seville had loads of big hits with his famous chipmunks back then. Simon, Theodore and ALVIN! "OKAAAAAY!". The Chipmunk Song and The Witchdoctor were the first songs to use the technology of raising a person's voice mechanically and making it sound like that. Dave's real name was Ross Bagdasarian and his son eventually took over the job later on.

Spike Jones was such a novelty act of his time and his songs were simply hysterical and unique sounding due to all of the sound effects they used and performed live, I might add. Cocktails For Two and You Always Hurt The One You Love were superb and always made me laugh and still do until this day.

It seems to me that the 50's was a very big era for comedy and novelty songs. I don't really know why they seemed to have disappeared over the years. They're still some but not in quite abundance as before. Maybe because the world was much more innocent back then and people aren't as easily amused these days. I don't know the reason but I think it's a shame that more aren't made today. I think people need more humor in their lives in these crazy times we live in.

America's all-time favorite soul group got their start in 1960. In 1961, they recorded for the Miracle label under the name of The Elgins and The Primes.

The original lineup featured Eddie Kendricks, Paul Williams, Melvin Franklin, Otis Williams (no relation to member Paul) and Eldridge Bryant.

In 1961, Berry Gordy signed the group to Motown, but since there was already an active group known as The Elgins, they changed their name to The Temptations.

When David Ruffin, cousin of Billy Stewart, replaced Bryant in 1964, that's when the hits started coming. Although Ruffin sang lead on many of their hits, the other members shared leads on some of their other songs.

Ruffin, who was causing friction among the other group members and Motown chief, Berry Gordy, was fired from the group in 1968. Kendricks left the group in 1970 after internal problems resulted in arguments over leadership of the group. Both singers returned for the 1982 "Reunion" album.

On the charts, The Temptations scored 37 times on the Billboard Top 40 weekly charts between 1964 and 1975. Four times they went to number one and many of their songs have been covered by other artists.

Kendricks and Ruffin both had successful solo careers with Ruffin having three Top 20 Billboard hits and Kendricks having four, with "Keep On Truckin'" going to number one.

In the world of digitized music, the term "sharing" is slightly ambiguous. It can refer to un-contentious software features such as the "sharing" functions of iTunes, which allow you to listen to music stored on other computers on your home or office network. It can also refer to highly controversial practices, such as exchanging vast swathes of music with friends - the kind of thing that prompts the music industry to claim that there's no distinction between sharing copyrighted music and stealing it.

iTunes Sharing Over A Network

A network is two or more computers connected together, either with cables or a wireless technology such as Wi-Fi (AirPort in Mac-speak). If you have more than one computer in the house, networking them together allows you to share files, printers and Internet connection. If each computer is equipped with iTunes, a network also lets you "stream" music from one to another, with each computer having access to the music stored on the others - even between Macs and PCs. These days, setting up a home network can take seconds rather than days.

Start Sharing

First of all you'll need to set the sharing options for each computer on the network. Open iTunes Preferences and, under the Sharing tab, you'll see two main check boxes: "Look for shared music" (which instructs iTunes to find shared music on other computers on the network) and "Share my music" - which breaks down further into sharing your entire Library or just selected specified playlists. As for the "Shared name" box, whatever you enter here will pop up in the Source List of other users on the network.

Next, decide if you want to set a password for others accessing your songs: this option is not compulsory, but it could be useful if, say, you're embarrassed about your easy listening playlist. When you are done, click OK and start sharing.

Californication is the latest Rock CD realeased by the extremely talented group Red Hot Chili Peppers and they have once again have delivered a brilliant collection of tracks. I'm confident Red Hot Chili Peppers fans, and Rock fans alike will be pleased with this one.

Unfortunately, it's not everyday that I get a CD from an artist that I can just pop in and comfortably listen to from beginning to end. There is usually a song or two that I just can't force myself to get through. Not at all the case with Californication. Every track is enjoyable and was pretty easy for me to listen to from start to finish.

One of the refreshingly nice things about this CD is the way all of the participating artists seem to be really enjoying themselves. Combine that with the overall presentation and you've got one of Red Hot Chili Peppers's most impressive releases ever.

Listen to and I think you'll agree that the song choices are excellent, the production is outstanding and Red Hot Chili Peppers are in top form.

While this entire album is really very good the truly standout tunes are Around The World [track 1], This Velvet Glove [track 11], and Right On Time [track 14].

My SmoothLee Bonus Pick, and the one that got Sore [...as in "Stuck On REpeat"] is track 9, Emit Remmus. Wow!

With the rise of popular stars such as Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift, many people think that country music is a new genre. The truth is that country has a long standing tradition in American music, going all the way back to the 1930's. Learning how to play jazz piano for the first time is exciting yet very intimidating if one starts with the wrong songs. Selecting pieces that are melodically pleasing, rhythmically simple, harmonically easy (as in the chord changes) and all structured within a straightforward form is very important if a beginner jazz pianist is to gain any significant performance result.

Hence, the following pieces all comprise the elements just mentioned above and, in my opinion, are very suitable for any novice jazz player. Interestingly, these pieces will eventually have to be among the standard tunes in any true jazzer's repertoire.

The five songs are: (listed in alphabetical order)

1. Autumn Leaves: Beautiful melody in simple rhythms; II-V-I chord changes in the key of G major and its relative E minor; 32-bar ABAC form. This is a "must know" jazz standard, often played in ballad and/or medium swing style. It is also common to find this song represented in G minor.

2. Blue Bossa: Descending melody line with lightly syncopated latin rhythms; II-IV-I in C minor and Db major; 16-bar AB form. This piece is great in two ways: it is a great introduction to bossa nova style and also chord changes in minor key.

3. Fly Me to the Moon: Another beautiful descending melodic line with a rhythm that can be interpreted in swing or latin; mainly diatonic and related chords from C major; another 32-bar ABAC form. An old Sinatra favorite and, of course, repopularized by Michael Buble, this song not only has a catchy melody, but the chord progression also moves beautifully in the cycle of fifths.

4. So What: Simple modal melody in the bass in flowing 8th rhythms; D Dorian modal chords; classic 32-bar AABA, starting with 16 bars of D Dorian, moving up a half step to 8 bars of Eb Dorian and back to the last 8 bars of D Dorian again. Miles Davis' popular piece is an excellent thesis in modal studies. The beginner will learn the concept of "less is more."

5. Summertime: A classic Gershwin blues melody in simple rhythms; mainly diatonic and related chords of D minor; 16-bar AB form. Another great minor piece and also a "must know," with a bluesy tinge. There is an opportunity to learn about line clichés and applying them to chords Imi and IVmi.

For each song, learn the melody and play through its chord progression. Pay attention to the form and structure of the song. If possible, commit all these to memory. It will be well worth the effort and time and you will appreciate knowing the song inside out, especially once you start the improvisational aspect of jazz piano-playing!

Skate Wear

Skate wear has close links with surf wear as both styles emerged out of the same scene as skateboarders and surfers tend to be one and the same. So first off, by all-time I mean up to this point. I am sure Alicia Keys is not done writing for her lifetime, but here are the five best put out by the New York City native.

1. No One - This song was the first single off of "As I Am," and showed off Alicia's range like few other songs. The passion, which you can see on her music video, rocketed this hit to #1 and became an instant hit.
2. Fallin' - Before we actually knew a lot about the artist Alicia Keys, she gave us this song. Another instant hit, it came off of her debut album "Songs in A Minor."
3. If I Ain't Got You - This ballad is one of the best piano songs performed in recent history. Countless women have tried to do covers of this song, but no one quite has topped her. This song comes off the album "Diary of Alicia Keys."
4. My Boo - So this song was not technically hers, as it appeared on Usher's "Confessions." She did however sing half of the song so she should be have this as part of her resume. The chemistry the two had in the song made this one a favorite among couples
5. Superwoman - The final song on this list is another relatively new one. "Superwoman" documents all the struggles women go through in all of the world. It has been used for a ton of commercials, television shows and award shows. This is on the same album as the #1 song on this list, "As I Am."

This was a tough list to make. Alicia Keys is a valuable artist, but she should be recognized for her best work. Narrowing it down to five was tough, and I apologize ahead of time for showing inadvertent favoritism.

I had a lot of trouble finding good background music for the videos I was making until I found a program that you can use to make your own music and now I don't have to worry about breaking copyright laws either.

When I first started making my own videos I didn't really know anything about copyright infringement or about any of the copyright laws until I submitted a video on YouTube.com and received one of those copyright infringement warning messages. After reading on some of the websites about these laws I started to think about other ways I can get music for my videos, I never really though about making my own.

I assumed you would need to either be musically minded or a be a musician to use music making software but when I done some research on Dubturbo which is a music beat maker program I was actually pretty shocked at how easy it looked to make your own music.

So I started making my own music for videos I was making and turns out everyone I show really liked the videos and the music. Now I make background music for videos and games for a small fee which makes me think I could start making a living from making music beats for people as a business of some kind. But for now it is just for fun and some spare cash here and there.

Mistake #4 - Focusing on increasing the 'quantity' of fans instead of the 'intensity' of your fans. The 'number' of fans you have should always be your secondary focus (not your primary one) if you want to become successful in the music industry. The fact is, it is not the number of 'fans' that matters most, it's the number of FANATICS which will contribute more directly to your success (or lack of it). This is particularly true in the beginning of a band's music career. Focus more effort on converting your existing fans into raving fanatics. Learn to do this and the number of your overall fans will increase through powerful word of mouth.

Mistake #3 - Not enough cash flow to support your music career. Like it or not, it takes money to build a music career. Even if other people/companies are paying for your record, tour support, merchandise, etc. you still need to have the freedom to pursue opportunities as they come. Sadly, many musicians miss opportunities because they can't afford to take advantage of them.In addition to a decent income, you also need the flexibility of being able to take time away from that income source to go into the studio, go on tour, etc. That is why learning how to teach guitar is such a great way to achieve both if you learn how to become a highly successful guitar teacher.

Mistake #2 - Not enough depth in your music relationships. There's an old expression, "It's not what you know, it's who you know." In music this is often modified to, "It's not who you know, it's who knows you." The truth is, it's not about either. The most important aspect of connections within the music industry is how deep are the current relationships you have now and will develop in the future. You don't want to simply know people or be known, you want people who know you to have a real deep connection with you so that you are always on the top of their mind when opportunities present themselves. Ask yourself, "What can I do right now to deepen my existing relationships further on an ongoing basis?"

Mistake #1 - Having a fundamental misunderstanding about what record companies look for - and expect from new bands. This is a huge topic, but in a nutshell it's very useful to think of record companies like a bank that lends money to people or small businesses. Record companies make most of their decisions about whom they will work with and what the terms will be in much the same way that a bank will determine who they will loan money to and what the terms of the loan will be. Both record companies and banks basically want to see 3 things:

1. How much value do you bring to the deal right now.
2. How much risk do you bring with you right now.
3. How much potential value and risk might you bring to them in the future after they invest in you.

If you want to buy a house, the bank wants to know a lot about the specific house you want to buy and EVEN MORE about YOU. Record companies are the exact same, they want to know about your music, your talent and your band, but they also care as much (or more) about YOU (and your band mates) as people. What about YOU makes a record deal a good or bad investment for them.
